Founded by UFC vet and former WEC featherweight champion Miguel Torres and veteran MMA journalist and publicist Mike Russell, Fight Empire’s primary goal is to provide its clients with the best opportunities available to them. FE’s mandate is to put fighters first and to help them build their careers from the ground up by giving them the tools they need to construct a strong foundation in the sport that will support them throughout their fight careers and after they hang up their gloves.
A protege of the late, great Carlson Gracie, Torres’ storied 14-year career has seen him compete over 60 times, including more than a dozen undocumented, unsanctioned bouts. Currently under contract with World Series of Fighting, the owner of Torres Martial Arts Academy in Hammond, Indiana is eager to share his wealth of experience and knowledge with his FE family.
Torres is the president of Fight Empire and will offer guidance as fighter liaison.
Russell has covered the sport since 2005 as a reporter, journalist, and editor for several of MMA’s biggest media outlets including UFC.com, UFC Magazine, Fighters Only Magazine, Fight! Magazine, Fox Sports, Yahoo! Sports, The Fight Network, and Cagepotato.com. In the past eight years he developed strong working relationships and friendships with the fighters he covered, and after switching gears from writing to PR in 2012, he turned his focus to helping promote and advocate for the sport and its athletes. An honors graduate of Durham College’s Public Relations program, his PR firm, Novarum Communications has represented a number of well-known combat sport related brands, including the FILA World Grappling and MMA Championships, several regional fight promotions, FundaFighter.com, and Tristar Dorms.
Russell is Fight Empire’s senior fighter agent and will look after contract negotiations and sponsorships.
